V Pokémon are always Basic Pokémon and can be played without evolving, even if the Pokémon on the card is a Pokémon that would normally need to be evolved into. ![]() (There is also Tag-Team GXs which give 3 prizes instead of 2 and are always Basic) When you use a GX attack you have a token or marker of some sort that you flip over to indicate and remind both players that you’ve already used it that game. They also have a GX attack which is an attack that you can only use one of per game. GXs that are based on Pokémon that are evolutions have to be evolved into from and like normal Pokémon. Here’s a description of the quirks of GXs and Vs:īoth give up 2 prize cards when KOd instead of 1 like a normal Pokémon. I think the bigger problem would be the power creep aspect, newer cards being stronger than older ones. It’s compatible, I just thought it would be a tad confusing for a new player to deal with two different kinds of Rule Box Pokémon. Overall though, for playing stick to the League Battle decks and 2021 Trainers Toolkit and don't go for anything as as pulls are just too inconsistent for deckbuilding purposes whether for learning to play, the next step up or for competitive. The best of those decks atm to get started in Standard format (best format to start with for beginners) once you're ready to are both of the Urshfu ones and there are videos on Omnipoke's channel about upgrading them plus you can use Play Limitless linked in the resources list to check for up to date lists including Brilliant Stars. It's also worth downloading PTCGO btw for the learn to play tutorial and play against the AI option to help get the basics down.Īfter Battle Academy the next step up is the League Battle decks and 2021 Trainers Toolkit (Blue) as those will give you the basis of a couple of decks on the competitive level once you've finished playing with them out of the box plus a lot of the staples for most decks meaning you just need to buy singles after that. If you want to go for a cheaper option at this stage then there are also other decks that can be built at the same power level and both those and the Battle Academy decks plus a proxy printing tool are linked in this list of useful resources if you'd rather proxy rather than buy (will need sleeves & card for backing). r/ptcgo can help with the online game as well.īattle Academy is at roughly the same power level as the V Battle decks but after you've finished with playing with them out of the box there's no real room for upgrading them as they're just for basics learning to play. Suggest you head over to /r/pkmntcg as it's about the playable side of the game there.
